CryptoSlate detailed a September assessment showing that the full BlindBit v2 feed uses roughly 8 MB per day for top-tier wallets. This number came from analyzing every Bitcoin block between height 709,656 and 965,089, covering 255,434 blocks.

Researchers determined the 8.0 MB daily mean using blocks 900,000 to 965,089 and assuming 144 blocks per day. The entire historical payload reached 15.08 GB, with an average of 59.0 KB per block. A simpler filter method yielded a 7.14 GB total, making the full feed roughly 2.1 times bigger. The team verified their sizing equation against 21 actual encodings, seeing deviations of about 0.5%.

The investigation highlighted a major trust problem. Light wallets depend on indexers to supply full scan information. If an indexer skips data required to locate a payment, the wallet might fail to create a matching destination and display no proof. A Cake Wallet report from July 2025 observed that clients can store a new local scan height even if the received data was incomplete, preventing the app from automatically fetching the absent block from another server.

Although the result stays valid on Bitcoin and data is regainable by rescaning from a prior height using a total source, the direct user risk is quiet failure. The wallet might show a finished sync without warning that old data needs review. Sparrow Wallet 2.5.0, launched in May 2026, included Silent Payments reception, yet widespread use relies on wallets spotting partial history before transactions vanish from the interface.
