CoinDesk reports that the XRP Ledger has launched a 14-day activation countdown for the PermissionDelegationV1_1 upgrade. The sequence initiated on Sept. 21, following approval from 29 of the 35 trusted validators on the network.

The change is set to activate on Oct. 5 at 11:18 UTC, provided that validator support holds at or above 80% during the countdown. A minimum of 28 validators must maintain their backing for the deployment to proceed. Should support drop beneath this level, the timer restarts.

This marks the second effort to roll out the feature. A community tester identified a vulnerability in the initial version on Sept. 15, 2025, during testing conducted off the main network. The bug enabled attackers to empty XRP accounts by levying fees on transactions that did not pass signature checks. The updated code, released in xrpld 3.3.0, fixes the sequence by checking signatures prior to calculating fees.

The feature permits accounts to grant up to 10 distinct permissions to other entities. The primary account keeps the authority to modify or remove these grants. This arrangement isolates everyday actions, like executing payments or endorsing clients, from the keys holding total control.
