CoinDesk reported that perpetual futures on the Bitcoin Volmex Implied Volatility Index debuted on Hyperliquid on Monday. A minor scheduling adjustment led Volmex to announce that trading is expected to begin Tuesday.
The BVIV Index measures the anticipated 30-day implied volatility of cryptocurrencies in real time. It is frequently labeled a "bitcoin VIX," mirroring the Cboe VIX index for the S&P 500. The contracts permit traders to position themselves on the size of bitcoin price movements rather than their direction.
The new market uses USDC for collateral and denomination, offering leverage of up to 5x at launch. Seda’s oracle infrastructure links the Volmex index to the Markets exchange onchain. Markets by Kinetiq led the listing alongside Volmex and Perps.inc, representing the first joint deployment among the three firms.
“The launch of BVIV Index perpetual futures on Hyperliquid is an unlock for crypto traders and investors,” said Cole Kennelly, founder and CEO of Volmex Labs. “The market leading Bitcoin volatility index is now available to trade on the market leading onchain perpetual futures exchange, making it easy to hedge, speculate, and utilize pure Bitcoin volatility exposure.”
Hyperliquid ranks as the largest decentralized venue for perpetual futures, processing billions of dollars in daily trading volume. The platform holds a fully diluted valuation exceeding $90 billion.
